See our BEFORE and AFTER Photos of a Cute House we Totally Remodeled-It's for SALE too!

As promised we are continuing the Before and After photos of the house that we recently remodeled. We're talking about the Master Bathroom now. We are showing the "AFTER" photo first so you can see all the great things we did to this bathroom first and then the "BEFORE" photos below.

We moved the north wall out to make more room in this master bath and I'm so glad we did!

We took this soaker tub out to make room for the walk in shower.

This 3' x 3' shower was the next thing to go.  The toilet was originally on the right side of this shower.

The vanity and mirrors/cabinet above it went out the door too.  The tile floor had to be broken up and then removed (a labor intensive job that Builder Chad did- thank goodness- I'm just not all that strong) We had to redo the plumbing for the toilet as we moved it on the opposite wall.  We brought the north wall of the bathroom out almost 2 feet, we had the space so we did it!  That meant we had to move the plumbing for the shower too.

The walls were painted a beautiful light grey with the base and trim white.  The floor tiles had brown and grey in them and looked like wood plans. We used the same tile for the accent pieces in the shower.  The shower floor is a pebble tile that I absolutely loved. I've been trying to get Builder Chad to use the pebble tile in our other showers, and this time, I'm happy to say, I got my wish.  It has pebbles in brown, light brown, light and dark grey.

The white cabinets have a granite top, new faucets, mirrors and lights. Two sinks mean you can both get ready at the same time in the morning.  The toilet is on the south side of the shower. We made sure there was plenty of room on each side of the toilet, it's new too!

As I said earlier, this great tile had browns and grey in them. We used a light grey grout to bring out even more of the grey in the tile and we love it!  Tile used to be so boring compared to what they make now.
Come to our Open House this Saturday July 21st 11:00 to 2:00 to see all-AND it is for Sale-You could have this Brand New, Totally Remodeled house!   358 West 3950 North Provo, Utah  (River Bottoms)

The Best Tip for Softening Butter Quickly Plus the Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

When I saw this tip about softening butter and I just had to try it. It's perfect for the times when you need softened butter quickly but don't want it melted.  At our house someone is always "Can we make cookies"  and of course the butter is never soft and ready to use, so we have to wait until it gets soft and who can wait that long when you're wanting a warm and delicious chocolate chip cookie right now?

Here's the process:  Fill a pan with water and bring it to a boil, you could even let it boil for a minute or so.  Then fill a cup or a mason jar with the water.  Let the water sit in the cup/jar for a minute until the jar gets really hot!  Then dump out the water and place the cup over the butter and onto a plate.

Fresh out of the fridge

Now it's softened

In the first experiment I took the butter out of the paper wrapper.  There was a little bit of melted butter on the plate when all was said and done but the butter was definitely softened and ready to use.

In the second experiment we left the paper on the butter and it worked out just fine. That's the method I would recommend, but with either method you get soft butter.  It may take up to 5 minutes or so but that is so much quicker than just letting it sit out and soften that way.

Here are the cookies that we made with the softened butter.  They are called the Ultimate Chocolate Chip cookies. I love this recipe because it only calls for 1 cube of butter. Most recipes call for 2 cubes of butter and that can get expensive. I use a small ice cream scoop and can get about 35 cookies out of this recipe. It is such a yummy cookie.  I've practically got the recipe memorized I've made it so many times. I'm so happy to have finally found a recipe that turns out so nice and tastes so good!

Ideas for Kids Play Room, Rain Gutter Book Shelves, and Library

We're sharing some great ideas today that you could use to create a space just for the kids....complete with their own library as well. All it takes is a little imagination to make a space like this fun for the kids.

Have you heard of rain gutter bookshelves? There easy to install and you can customize the size to fit any wall in your home.  Our wall quote "Imagination, because a good book has no ending" would be the perfect on the wall above the shelves. It's easy to do and it defines a space for a child's library. This darling playroom was decorated by my daughter and their kids love spending time in their own space-reading and creating.

This wall quote comes in two different colors but the quote comes in one piece......you won't have to put up "imagination" and then trying to match and center the sentence below. We make it easy for you. The paper banner is made up of colors that match the decor in the entire room so it is a great decor accessory,  easy to make and very colorful.

You can make these rain gutter bookshelves as long or as short as you like. How big is the blank wall you have? Customize it to fit any space in your home whether it's a large space or a small space.

There's a corner in this playroom that is very well organized with all the creative tools the kids need and use. There's a child-sized table next to it for coloring and creating, This system came from IKEA and is very affordable.

This reading corner is complete with a bean bag to sit on. Who knows, the kids may be so comfortable they may stay and while and read more in their own library.

The "LOVE" sign is so darling, and the distressed look is easy to do too. A piece of beadboard was used for the backing.

Material and a hoop is all you need for this darling wall decor.  Super Simple!

A place to hang up the dress-ups is easy with this shelf.

Here's a easy tutorial for putting up Rain Gutter Shelves in your home.....and don't forget the vinyl quote to go above them......it will just finish the look!  Click HERE for the Vinyl Quote

Make Your Own Streak-Free, Wipe-Free Window Cleaner!

This is such an amazing idea that I had to share it here on my blog. It is of a particular interest to me as the entire wall of our family room/kitchen is a wall of windows.  I love them but it is a chore to keep them clean. Particularly trying to reach the windows at the very top and make them look good after using the squeegee is difficult.  I'll have to admit that they aren't always streak free.

I found this wonderful information over at "One Good Thing, by Jillee"  I intend on putting it to the test very soon. My husband just washed our windows.  Not having to wipe the windows dry is really great when you can't get close to the windows for the bushes.

So head over to "One Good Thing, by Jillee" and get the VERY inexpensive recipe for cleaning your windows. You probably already have the ingredients in your pantry.

Oh, The Lovely Things You Can Do With Lemons

I love lemons....Their fresh and clean smell is something that's so great for your home.  Do you know all the fun things you can do with lemons? From household cleaning to skin care, age spot removal, detoxification and a lot more! It's an inexpensive natural alternative to chemical cleaners, face products, cough syrup and more.  Read all about it below.

When we add organic lemons into our diet, we get a better working digestive system, a healthier immune system and better-looking skin.  We enable the body to remove bad cholesterol, and we create a sportive environment for good bacteria; all of this means the body works more efficiently and effectively.  Lemons are an amazing way to keep bad bacteria at bay.  When you make my LemonAID - 8 ounces filtered water (heated), juice from half an organic lemon and 2-4 drops of natural sweetener - and consume it upon waking or before bed, you get the bacteria-fighting benefits of lemon juice that improve digestion and support your immune system.  Adding lemon juice to a glass of water can detox your liver and cleans the kidneys and digestive system.  It also helps remove toxins from your body.
Ashley Koff, RD/Dr Oz

Unleash the anti-aging of lemons with this homemade facial cleanser.  The acid from the lemons will rid your skin of outbreak-causing bad bacteria while the healthy probiotics from the yogurt will infuse your skin with good bacteria. Just a few ingredients required. Get the Recipe from Dr.Oz

If you've ever wondered about the difference in raw lemons compared to bottled lemon juice, the vitamin C goes from 139% to about 100% of the daily value per serving, with the calcium from 7% diminished to 3%. In addition, bottled lemon juice and other processed fruit juices are not as healthy as they seem, and contain very high amounts of fructose and potentially dangerous additives. Dr. Mercola

One of the most effective cold remedies known is made from lemon: Start with one pint of raw honey over very low heat. Chop a whole lemon into a bit of water in a separate pan, warming for two to three minutes. Add that to the honey, warming for about an hour, then strain out the lemon bits and seeds. Cool the mixture, seal in a jar with a lid and refrigerate for up to two months.  To soothe a cough: give 1/2 tsp. for a 25 lb. child, 1 tsp. for a 50 lb. child, or 1 Tbsp. for adults, about 4 times a day or as often as needed.  Dr. Mercola

The citric acid in lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent and exfoliates the skin, reducing the appearance of age spots.  Even if age spots are harmless, many still consider them unattractive.  But there's more good news because they are lots of simple, all natural remedies you can use to lighten brown spots at home.....Lemon juice is one of those remedies.  One Good Thing By Jillee

Wouldn't you love to have a glass shower door that is sparkling clean and smells of lemons?   Now you can.  Check out this post that tells you exactly how you can do that.  Super Simple! One Good Thing by Jillee

Lemons look great just sitting in a bowl on the counter.  Well, it turns out, that's about the worse way to store them (go figure) Cook's Illustrated tested severe ways of storing lemons and also discovered that the rinds don't protect the fruit from drying out very well.  Cook's tested storing lemons at room temperature and in standard refrigerator conditions  In the refrigerator, they also tested sealing the lemons in plastic bags, with and without water.

The RESULTS? The lemons stored in room temperature conditions only lasted a week before hardening. But the ones they sealed in plastic bags in the refrigerator?  Those lasted FOUR times as long. A  month verse a week on the countertop.  The lemons stored loose in the refrigerator didn't fare quite as well but were till an improvement over the room temperature examples.  And the article makes a point that the lemons should be sealed in a plastic bag and not just shoved in a drawer in their flimsy, open supermarket produce bags. theKitchn.com

One of the tricks to finding a good quality lemon is to find one that is rather thin-skinned since those with thicker peels will have less flesh and therefore be less juicy. Therefore, choose lemons that are heavy for their size and that feature peels that have a finely grained texture. They should be fully yellow in color as those that have green tinges will be more acidic due to the fact that they have not fully ripened. Signs of overmature fruit include wrinkling. WHFoods

I love the idea of dusting with a lemon dusting cloth.  They look very easy to make. Just need a few ingredients including lemons, rags, vinegar, olive oil.....Head over to get all the information and the "recipe"for making Lemon Dust Cloths  One Good Thing By Jillee

If you've tried over the counter remedies to remove warts and they haven't worked....then try this. Apply a dab of lemon juice directly over the
using a cotton swab.  Repeat for a few days until the acids in the lemon juice have dissolved the wart completely. That seems easy and would be less expensive than a store bought remedy.

Applying lemon juice to your scalp an help treat problems like dandruff and hair loss.  It can also give your hair a natural shine. Dandruff relief may be no further away then your refrigerator.  Just massage 2 tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water.  Then stir 1 teaspoon lemon juice into 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it.  Repeat this daily until your dandruff disappears.  Lemon's acidity helps balance the pH of your scalp, which helps keep dandruff at bay.
